Help your local MP see responsible finance in action
An MP visit is a simple, powerful way to show first-hand the impact of CDFIs in changing lives and strengthening local economies every day.
Responsible Finance has developed templates to help members invite their local MPs to visit, plan the meeting, and explain the role CDFIs play in widening access to fair and affordable finance.
These resources are designed to make organising a visit easier, whether you want to welcome an MP to your office, introduce them to a local customer, or both.
The goal is to help to show how CDFI lending is helping people, businesses, and social enterprises in MPs’ own constituencies.

Why invite your MP?
MPs are most likely to understand the value of CDFIs when they see the work for themselves.
A visit gives you the opportunity to:
- Show local impact by introducing your MP to the individuals, businesses, or social enterprises your lending has supported
- Explain the role of CDFIs in reaching customers who cannot access the finance they need from mainstream providers
- Demonstrate how responsible finance supports local growth, including through business start-ups, job creation, building financial resilience, and community wealth building
- Build a relationship with your MP so they know who to contact on issues relating to fair finance, financial exclusion, and local economic development
- Make the case for sector support by showing how CDFIs can do even more with stronger referrals, investment and policy backing.
What is included?
The templates can be adapted depending on whether your CDFI supports households, businesses, social enterprises, or a combination of these.
Members are encouraged to personalise these materials with local evidence, customer stories, and constituency-specific examples.
1. Email template
The invite template gives a starting point for contacting your local MP, helping you to:
- introduce your organisation and the communities you serve
- explain what a CDFI is in plain English
- set out why a visit would be useful for the MP
- offer a practical next step to agree a suitable date.

2. Briefing template
The briefing template helps you plan the visit and make sure everyone involved understands the purpose, agenda, and key messages. It includes sections for:
- Date, time, and location
- Purpose of the visit
- Attendees
- Suggested agenda
- Background on the CDFI
- Background on the customer or beneficiary
- Background on the MP
- Key information on the CDFI sector
- Suggested actions MPs can take to support CDFIs.
The briefing can be shared internally with colleagues, with the MP’s office, and with any customers or partners taking part in the visit.
