We’ve been made award of fraudulent scam emails from people impersonating Responsible Finance.
Some of the messages tell recipients a loan has been approved, and request their bank account details.
Some use subject lines such as “Approved Loan.”
1. We do not authorise loans (our member CDFIs do).
2. We never request personal financial information.
Sadly, scams are widespread. Criminals are using tactics such as scam phone calls, text messages and emails, as well as fake websites and social media posts, to try trick people into handing over personal details and passwords, according to UK Finance.
Should you receive such an email, you may wish to report it to the police and to Action Fraud.
UK Finance also urges people to follow the advice of the Take Five to Stop Fraud campaign, and remember that criminals are experts at impersonating people, organisations and the police:
Criminals spend hours researching you for their scams, hoping you’ll let your guard down for just a moment. Stop and think. It could protect you and your money.
Stop: Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.
Challenge: Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
Protect: Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.
