Lancashire Community Finance is a community financial services provider delivering the government start up loans scheme. We need a small business lending manager to undertake day to day responsibility for client contact, start up loan lending appraisal and manging one direct report member of staff.
The applicant must have experience in unsecured none credit scored consumer or commercial lending or be a recent graduate in a numerical/analytical subject with some previous relevant work experience.
You must be adaptable to work in a small office with colleagues delivering other programmes and have strong computer skills.
Essential characteristics include, good verbal and written communication skills with individuals from a wide cross section of the community. A proven ability in information gathering, data analysis, report writing and following policy.
The role is based in Preston 9.00 – 5.00 Monday to Friday with occasional travel to other LCF offices and networking.

Role Name Small Business Lending Manager
Key Focus/ Role Purpose
To manage the start up loans contract providing support, advice, guidance and analysis in line with agreed standards, timescales and deadlines
Reports To; CEO
Salary Banding £30,000 – £40,000
To take responsibility for the management of the start-up loans contract and team, ensuring standards, regulatory requirements lending and arrears targets are met at all times.
Assess viability of loan applications by analysing business plans, cash flow forecasts and affordability, conduct due diligence on applicant and business idea
Make recommendations to approve or decline none credit scored lending applications
Provide one to one business advice and support to loan applicants
To drive product design and delivery alongside the CEO, ensuring the correct level of business support, advice and guidance is provided at all times.
Respond to initial customer enquiries, explaining what the Start Up Loan scheme is and the application process; advising customers on how to complete business plans and cash flow forecasts
To process all SUL applications, ensuring all relevant documents are received. To ensure that LCF/SULCo’s credit policy is followed at all times.
To arrange meetings with customers and/or a member of the lending team to interview the applicant.
To liaise with existing customers to resolve their queries
To manage all marketing and media activity within the SUL team.
To take responsibility for mentoring and supporting all related activities and contracts
Apply Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering checks and controls to all customer activity.
Building strong professional relationships with a variety of people and organisations within the local community to generate a pipeline of new clients and ensure clients are obtaining appropriate business development support.
Attend networking events and make required presentations
Prepare quarterly newsletter and reports
To maintain awareness of FCA regulations, Consumer Credit Act, current Trading Standards requirements, the requirements of the Data Protection Act and any other relevant legislation and ensure that all actions taken comply with these Acts.
Ensure that you are up to date with the requirements of Equal Opportunities legislation, Health and Safety and Fire regulations and any other relevant legislation.
Take responsibility for own development/training needs. Contribute to continuous service improvement by active participation in Performance Development Reviews.
Comply with Company policy as laid down in the Operating and Staff Regulations Manual and Loans Procedures Manual.
Assist with cover on other teams and the training of other staff when necessary
Performance management of Start Up loans team
Maintain confidentiality of personnel matters, general company business and most importantly total customer confidentiality
To undertake any other duties that may be required from time to time
Mentoring and guidance to individuals who have received a loan as they develop and grow their business.
Achieve minimum requirements in all quality audits

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience
An understanding of Financial Services regulations
An understanding of the needs of people who are currently excluded from mainstream financial Services
Experience/knowledge of working with disadvantaged local communities to provide financial products that will make a real difference.
Experience of underwriting business loan applications
Strong information gathering and report writing skills
Excellent telephone skills, or the ability to develop these quickly
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in a variety of ways including verbal and written to meet the needs of different audiences including customers, staff, mentors & stakeholders
Able to receive and carry out instructions accurately
Strong planning and personal organisational skills
Experience in working to a business plan and meeting targets.
Advanced level IT office skills, word, excel, statistical and data analysis
Prepared to travel across LCF area
Experience of working with small team of staff
